How Bass Fishing makes money, what an affiliate link is, and the rules that keep commission from influencing what we recommend.
The short version
Bass Fishing is reader-supported. Some links on this site are affiliate links: if you click one and buy something, we may earn a commission. You never pay more — the commission comes out of the retailer's margin, not your pocket.
What that means in practice
An affiliate link carries a tracking code identifying the referral. If you buy within the retailer's tracking window, we get a percentage of the sale. That is the entire arrangement. We do not see your name, address, card details or order contents — only aggregate commission reporting from the retailer.
Affiliate links on this site are marked up with rel="sponsored nofollow", which is the disclosure format search engines ask for, and they are disclosed in plain English at the top of any article that contains one.
Our rules
- Commission never decides a recommendation. If the right answer for most anglers is a cheaper item, a used item, or nothing at all, that is what the article says.
- No paid placements or paid rankings. Nobody can buy a position on this site.
- No invented experience. We do not describe testing we have not done or publish a verdict on gear nobody here has handled.
- Sponsorship gets labelled. If we ever publish sponsored content, it will be marked as sponsored at the top of the page, before the content.
- Prices and availability change. Anything we quote was accurate when written; always check the current price at the retailer before buying.
Advertising
The site may also carry display advertising. Advertisers have no input into editorial content and no advance sight of it.
