Who writes these bass fishing guides, how gear gets assessed, and the rules we hold ourselves to before anything gets published.
Why this site exists
Bass fishing information online has a quality problem. Search almost any technique and you get the same recycled paragraph — a rig name, a lure list, and nothing about why it works or when it stops working. That is useless on the water at 6 a.m. when the fish are not doing what the article said they would.
Every guide here is written to answer the question an angler is actually asking: what do I tie on, how do I work it, and what tells me to switch. If a piece cannot answer that, it does not go up.
How we handle gear
We describe gear by specification and job, not by brand loyalty. A "7'0" medium-heavy, fast action rod with 15 lb fluorocarbon" is advice that stays true for years and works across price ranges. A model name is advice with a two-year shelf life.
Our rules:
- We do not publish a rating for gear nobody here has used.
- We do not invent prices, weights or specs. If we cannot verify a figure, we leave it out.
- Affiliate commission never changes a recommendation or an ordering. Where a cheaper option is the better option, it goes first.
- Anything sponsored would be labelled as sponsored, at the top of the page. Right now nothing on this site is.

How we handle facts
Fish biology and water behaviour are researchable. When an article leans on a specific figure — a spawning temperature range, a state record, a regulation — we cite the source at the bottom of the article so you can check it yourself. Where the honest answer is "it depends on your lake", we say that instead of inventing a number.
Regulations, seasons and licence requirements vary by state and change year to year. Always confirm the current rules with your state wildlife agency before you fish.
